Civilian Volunteer of the Year - Betty Wick
Mrs. Betty Wick currently serves as a civilian volunteer with the Tampa Police Department. Mrs. Wick has volunteered for the past six years and currently holds the position of President of the Civilian Volunteers Assisting Police (CVAP) organization. Mrs. Wick is currently assigned to the Special Services Division and performs various tasks such as assisting in the Police Memorial Museum, False Alarm Reduction Unit and in conducting fundraising efforts to purchase much needed safety equipment for patrol officers.
Mrs. Wick has volunteered over 4,400 hours of her own time to assist the Tampa Police Department in its daily mission. It goes without saying that in these times our agency could not be as successful in continuing to meet the departmental mission of reducing crime without the assistance of volunteers like Betty Wick.
Mrs. Wick has also served as a Guardian Ad Litem since 1996. She is a court appointed volunteer with a duty to represent the best interest of abused/neglected children who are in Dependency court. Mrs. Wick meets with dependent children on a monthly basis and goes to court on their behalf, files reports, visits schools, physicians, foster placements and attends any staffings/meetings involving the children. Mrs. Wick received the first Child Protection Award in 2004. Thereafter, the award bears her name and is given annually.
