TPD Employee of the Year - Andrea Davis

When Ms. Davis was called upon to manage the Department’s Media Relations Office for almost four months in 2007, she did so with leadership, poise and determination. Ms. Davis’ ability to think globally helped her handle any situation that arose whether it was with the public, members of the media, the executive staff or police officers. She did an excellent job dealing with the daily barrage of media inquiries while also rallying the PIO staff employees to continue producing the Chief’s show, “On Duty with the Tampa Police Department”, and publishing the quarterly magazine, “Signal 14.”

Upon joining the Media Relations Office two years ago, Ms. Davis moved quickly to take on the challenge of improving the Department’s official quarterly publication, the Signal-14. In very short order, Ms. Davis led a complete transformation of the publication, taking it from a lackluster black and white newsletter to a high quality, full-color glossy magazine. Ms. Davis then spearheaded the Department’s efforts to take the publication to the public, making it available for download via the Police Department website and also creating a widely distributed “E-zine”, electronically mailing it to subscribers throughout the City.

The Signal-14 magazine has become a showcase of positive stories, providing the community-at-large with a regular accounting of our department’s crime reduction programs, strategies and statistics. The Signal-14 also publishes the Department’s Annual Report, providing citizens, community leaders and businesses alike with an unparalleled degree of transparency for all Police Department operations.
