Community Policing Award - Lisa Timmer

CSO Lisa Timmer Community Service Officer Lisa Timmer has worked as part of District II’s Crime Prevention Unit for five years and has been the driving force behind the development of many of the district’s crime prevention and community outreach programs.

CSO Timmer works very closely with all of the district’s Neighborhood Watch groups, maintaining a constant two-way flow of information with group leaders, providing information regarding current crime trends, crime hot spots, and prevention strategies and tips. As a result of her tireless efforts, District II enjoys some of the most active Neighborhood Watch groups in the City of Tampa. In 2007, under CSO Timmer’s guidance and leadership, seven new Neighborhood Watch groups were formed within the district.

CSO Timmer looks constantly for opportunities to better serve the community. She recently proposed and led the efforts of the Police Department to become involved in a program in which donated cell phones are refurbished and given to elderly residents who are on limited incomes. The phones can be used for calling 911 in emergencies. To date she has collected 2,560 donated phones that are in the process of being refurbished and has distributed over 200 phones to the elderly city-wide. Funds donated by the company refurbishing the cellular phones have been provided to the S.A.L.T. Council to be used senior assistance programs. To date, the S.A.L.T. Council has received $6,075.25.
