Major David Fairbanks Memorial Award - Det Alexander Rahmings
Detective Alexander Rahmings is a thirteen-year veteran of the Tampa Police Department and is currently assigned as a detective in the Narcotics Bureau. Detective Rahmings' knowledge of drug smuggling operations and tireless, determined work ethic has distinguished him as one of the top-producers in the Narcotics Bureau. Over the course of the past three years, Detective Rahmings, acting as lead case agent, has conducted investigations resulting in the arrest of over 75 drug traffickers and the dismantling of six drug trafficking organizations. These investigations yielded over 225 pounds of cocaine, 2 pounds of heroin and approximately $520,000.00 in traffickers’ funds seized for forfeiture.
More recently, during the West Tampa Initiative, Detective Rahmings was the lead investigator during a yearlong investigation of drug activity and related street crimes in North Boulevard Homes and West Tampa. With limited resources and intelligence, Detective Rahmings used buy-walk operations, structured intelligence from informant debriefings, and court authorized electronic surveillance on thirteen (13) telephone facilities to target traffickers for investigation.
For this six-month period, Detective Rahmings committed himself to working 12-18 hour days, seven days a week. His efforts resulted in the arrest of thirty (30) drug traffickers, the seizure of over 150 pounds of cocaine and 11 assault weapons. Collectively, the organizations were responsible for the importation and distribution of over 2,000 pounds of cocaine annually. Based on the strength of the evidence developed, four of the organizers/key-figures in these organizations are detained pending trial.
