Laura McElroy Biography

For 16 years Laura McElroy showed up at crime scenes as a reporter to ask the questions. Now as the Spokesperson for the Tampa Police Department, her role at crime scenes is answering the questions. It’s a new and exciting perspective for Laura who spent 10 years at WFTS, Channel 28 as a reporter and anchor. Her time covering courts and crime in Tampa helped prepare her for the new challenge of representing the police department.

Laura is a University of Florida graduate. Her first job was weekend anchor and reporter at the ABC station in Sarasota. Next, she jumped to the ABC station in West Palm Beach where she worked as a morning anchor and Bureau Chief. She didn’t know then that she would one day be working for a Chief!

The once award winning reporter now works daily with the television, newspaper and radio media in Tampa keeping them up to date on how Tampa Police Officers are serving their community. She finds her new career rewarding and always presenting new opportunities to grow.
