I joined the Tampa Police Explorers when I
graduated from high school. I was interested in law
enforcement; however, I was not sure what career would be best
suited for me. In the Explorers Program, I was able to have
hands on learning experiences that really helped me understand what
a career in law enforcement would be like. Being an Explorer
is about teamwork, responsibility, accountability, and taking pride
in yourself and your work.
After the Explorers Program, I worked in other career fields.
I even owned my own business for a few years; however, I still had a
strong desire to work in law enforcement. Therefore in 2007, I
decided to go back to school and volunteer at the Tampa Police
Department. I enjoyed working in different areas and learning
about different career opportunities within the department.
From that experience, I knew I wanted a career in forensic
investigations. Thus, I completed my Crime Scene Certification
and Fingerprinting Certification at Hillsborough Community College
In 2009, I initially started my career with the Tampa Police
Departmentís Communications Section. Then in 2010, I
transferred to the Forensic Identification Unit as a Crime Scene
Technician I. I found what I was most interested in and it all
started with the Explorers Program.
If you are not sure what you want to do in your future and you are
interested in law enforcement, this program is a great way for you
to learn about law enforcement careers, make new friends, and have a
lot of fun!
