Welcome Aboard the....
Tampa-Ybor Historic Electric Streetcar
Take a trip back in time to the days of bustling cities, streetcars
and coffee with your neighbors. Sharing a ride with friends or co-workers and catching up
on the latest news is a forgotten past. But now its time to bring back some of the good
'ol days. During the spring of 2002, workers, residents and visitors alike will enjoy a
leisurely ride between downtown Tampa and Ybor City on vintage streetcars. For those too
young to remember, streetcars last roamed the streets of Tampa in the early 1940s.
The new Tampa-Ybor Historic Electric Streetcars will provide a needed link to some of your
favorite venues in two historic areas of Tampa. This unique project is the combined
efforts of the City of Tampa, Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) (www.gohart.org) and the Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT). In addition, the Tampa Ybor Street Railway Society
is currently restoring an original Birney car, No. 163, which will be a featured
attraction of the system. So, get ready to hop aboard and enjoy the ride!
