The Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management provides environmentally safe, time
responsive, and cost effective collection, disposal and recycling
services for over 82,000 residential and commercial customers. The
department also oversees the city's Environmental Programs.
Approximately 360,000 tons of solid waste are processed annually at the
McKay Bay Refuse-to-Energy Facility where it is converted to electrical
energy.

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY - Residential Collection Schedule!

The residential collection schedule for City of Tampa customers with
regularly scheduled collection days on Monday and Thursday will be
affected by the Labor Day Holiday. There will be no residential
collection on Monday, September 6, 2010. Residential garbage collection
will resume on Thursday, September 9, 2010. Residential yard waste and
household recycling collection will resume on Monday September 13, 2010.
The Labor Day collection schedule for the Department of Solid Waste &
Environmental Program Management's remaining services is as follows:
- McKay Bay Transfer Station/Scalehouse will be closed on
Labor Day.
Normal schedule will resume on Tuesday, September 6, 2010.
- Manhattan Brush Site will be closed on Labor Day.
Normal schedule will resume on Tuesday, September 6, 2010.
- Commercial Services will occur one day behind the normally
scheduled day,
from Tuesday, September 6, 2010 through Saturday, September 11,
2010.
The City of Tampa's Department of Solid Waste &
Environmental Program Management has discontinue holiday make-up days for the
collection of residential waste and recycling following single-day observed
holidays. This change was implemented as part of the City of Tampa's Efficiency
and Effectiveness Task Force efforts. The change will streamline operations,
increase efficiency, and improve service quality, while at the same time reduce
operating costs. (News

The City of Tampa
has undergone
its first major rerouting effort since 1986! On June 7, 2010 the Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program
Management transitioned into its new "Service Day" schedule.
Expanded
Yard Waste service and improved service delivery
and response time
are just two of the many benefits
customers can expect gain from this change.

Service Day Change
The City
of Tampa Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management
has
changed the residential service collection days for household garbage,
household recycling, and yard waste recycling.
The reason
for the change include: unbalanced routes (number of homes per
collection vehicle); expansion in the types of services offered; and
greater efficiency through increased collection efforts designed to
focus on one area of the city at a time.
The benefits
we will realize include: improved customer service and response time
for all core collection services; expansion of yard waste recycling
services from 45% to 100% of households; 10% decrease in the number of
vehicles on the road daily; and carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced
by 500,000 pounds annually.

2010 S.W.E.E.P. Schedule -

The Department's Solid
Waste Enhanced Environment Program (S.W.E.E.P.)
provides Tampa residents with a cost free opportunity to dispose of
unwanted household materials. The S.W.E.E.P. program runs from
January through September of each year, and provides each neighborhood
with a week long clean-up. Please review the S.W.E.E.P. schedule to
determine the collection week designated for your neighborhood. Place
your bulky items at the curbside the week of the clean-up...and the
Solid Waste Special Services team will take care of the rest! |
Need a new blue box? Request a new one.
Missed Blue Box pickup? Let us know.
Recycle your old
blue bins: Leave your cracked, broken blue bins curbside on
your pick up day for collection (please leave a note on the bin stating that
you would like it replaced). The old bins will be taken to the processing
facility and recycled.
