Public Works

The Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management provides environmentally safe, time responsive, and cost effective collection, disposal and recycling services for over 79,000 residential and commercial customers. The department also oversees the city's Environmental Programs. Approximately 360,000 tons of solid waste are processed annually at the McKay Bay Refuse-to-Energy Facility where it is converted to electrical energy.

Mayor Buckhorn Rolls Out First of Compressed Natural Gas Fleet

City of Tampa Introduces Automated Recycling

In February 2013, the Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management launched a new way to recycle. Be Smart, Use Your Cart is an exciting, new automated recycling program for City of Tampa residents. Over an 18-month period, the 14-gallon blue bins currently used to store recyclables at the curb will replaced with a 95-gallon green recycling cart, complete with technology that will make them easier to track. Commercial Hauler Franchise Fees

Beginning July 1, 2012 the City of Tampa Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management established a new ordinance that differentiates payment requirements for fees paid by commercial solid waste haulers, from the fees paid by self-hauling businesses that conduct solid waste collection and/or disposal services within the City of Tampa service area.
 

New Solid Waste Rates

In a letter mailed to Tampa residents during the months of December 2011 and January 2012 the City of Tampa Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management laid out its proposal for a recommended, Residential & Commercial, rate increase over the next 4-years.
