Recycle Guys

The Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management Recycling Division is proud to introduce The Recycle Guys who will be featured on the sides of all recycling vehicles as well as in publications and on promotional items!

The Recycle Guys are part of an educational outreach campaign currently being used in several other states nationwide, designed to raise awareness by educating and informing the public about the importance of recycling, what can be recycled, how to reduce waste, and associated benefits. The campaign hails from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling, and was introduced in 1997.The campaign has won several local and national awards, and has been adopted by other states and local governments, like Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and the City of Denver, to encourage recycling in their communities.

	R - Juggam: "Did you know that milk jugs and other #2 plastics can be recycled in most communities in Florida? Typically these plastics get recycled into toys and plastic lumber that can be used to make park benches or decks, or car bumpers."
	E - Eager Ernie: "Did you know that newspapers and magazines can be recycled in most communities in Florida? Typically these materials get recycled into blank newsprint that newspaper companies use to print new newspapers."
	C - Charlie Charger: "Did you know that car and household batteries can be recycled in most communities in Florida? Typically old batteries have the lead removed and are melted down to make new batteries or other lead products, such as lead fishing sinkers."
	Y-Yoda the Soda: "Did you know that soda bottles and other #1 plastics can be recycled in most communities in Florida? Typically these plastics get recycled into Fiberfill for coats and jackets, clothes or carpet."
	C - Crummy "Did you know that car tires can be recycled in most communities in Florida? Typically tires are used as fuel to generate electricity or are recycled into playground mulch or asphalt."
	L - Linda-Hand: "Did you know that glass bottles can be recycled in most communities in Florida? Typically glass gets recycled into new glass bottles and jars, tile or roadways."
	E - Everlasting Eddie: "Did you know that aluminum and steel cans can be recycled in most communities in Florida? Typically the aluminum gets recycled into new cans. The steel can be recycled into new cars, bridge supports, and railroad ties. Just about anything made of steel has some recycled content."
