Programs for Young People
September 4, 11, 18, & 25 / 10 – 10:45 a.m. In conjunction with VSA arts Early Childhood Education Program, the museum presents the Thursday morning program, Start with the Arts Pre-School. The unique curriculum provides an art-based learning approach to literacy and includes activities in visual arts, creative drama, dance, movement and music. This program is geared for 3 – 5 year old children accompanied by a parent/guardian. The fee is $4 per adult and child, and $2 for each additional child, and includes all class supplies. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. / Free Admission September 13 / Recycled Bottle Sculptures September 27 / Paper Making This Saturday morning drop-in program offers children the opportunity to explore their own creativity by visiting the galleries and creating an art project in the museum’s classroom. The art projects are self-guided and offer a different art activity each week. No registration required. The Art Spot is a Target Art sponsored program.
The theme for March classes relate
to the current exhibition, Drawing beyond the Plane. Activities will push
traditional drawing to new limits with innovative pop-up books and unexpected
combinations of art mediums.
September 10 & 24 / 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Club Art is offered free of charge and scheduled on select Wednesday afternoons during the school year at Blake High School and at offsite locations. Club Art offers teens the chance to meet and work with art professionals, learn about careers in the arts and experiment with a wide-range of media and techniques. Activities include guest lectures, workshops, behind-the-scenes visits to museums and galleries, and the opportunity to create art in a studio environment. A variety of snacks and refreshments are provided.
Meetings are held from 4 – 5:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted With all of the exciting changes taking place at the museum, the Junior Docent program has decided to place increased emphasis on the creation of gallery guides and resources related to the museum’s permanent collection. These resources will become a permanent part of the museum’s educational offerings and will offer families additional ways to interact together with art. Junior Docents will continue to assist the museum with all of its educational programming including student receptions, Family Day events and The Art Spot activities. Junior Docents also participate in other art related events such as field trips to artist studios, museums and galleries. A Junior Docent at the Tampa Museum of Art is a high school student, 15 or older, trained to volunteer for the museum and help teach families and students about the museum’s collection of art. Junior Docents will also have an opportunity to plan social events throughout the year to learn more about the art community in Tampa – all while having fun! Family DaySeptember 20 / 1 - 4 p.m.Free Family Event Enjoy music and entertainment, a scavenger hunt, hands-on art activities and more. Family Day events at the Tampa Museum of Art are FREE and fun for all ages! Create art with recycled materials inspired by the current exhibition, It’s Not Easy Green Exhibition.
