Extend gutter downspouts to run off into turf grass areas instead of the storm sewers. Use environmentally friendly alternative mulch (pine straw) to control weeds and retain soil moisture. Replace unnecessary turf grass with drought-tolerant groundcover.
Colorful low growing drought tolerant plants beautifully replace areas previously covered in turf. This entire yard uses micro-irrigation and harvests rain water. Create self mulching areas to take advantage of leaves from tree canopies.
Seperate irrigation zones for turf and drought tolerant plantings in the shade. Convert grassy side yards into colorful Florida-friendly gardens. Florida-friendly plants come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and light requirements.
This award-winning yard has no irrigation system. The homeowner designed it to survive primarily on rainfall. This homeowner uses turf in play areas, and replaced it where possible with colorful shrubs and bromeliads. Colorful succulents in pots create a sunny oasis in an area surrounded by sidewalks.

We hope to see your yard featured here next year!
