Project Description
Located in District 5 of the City of Tampa, the Police & Fire
Rescue Communications Center receives every emergency call made within
the City of Tampa (an average of over 700,000 a year). The
facility also functions as the emergency operations center for the
area, and requires the facility to withstand hurricane force winds of
up to 180 MPH. The 13,000 sq. ft. high security facility is
operational 24/7, and staffed with 30 to 40 individuals at all times.
Artist Concept
The artist's starting point was in knowing that employees at
emergency facilities are often subject to high stress. The
outdoor break area could be constructed entirely of functional art,
and serve as a respite, oasis, or just a site to decompress. The
entire exterior space was considered. The completed project
successfully evokes the technological nature of the facility while
creating a comfortable and relaxing environment for the officer.
"The soft color combinations and balanced designs I use in my work
will help convey an interesting and calming atmosphere. The
image designs are inspired by patterns and shapes found everywhere
within the natural environment. My compositions often combine
both narrative and decorative elements encouraging viewers to
interpret the world as an interrelated whole." |
