Project Description

Artist Andrew Reid witnessed a "day in the life" of an officer at the Tampa Police Department.  Reid's point of departure for this commission was the dedication and discipline of the Police Officer.  He witnessed first hand several activities -- from the dramatic tracking a suspect in a Police Helicopter, to searching for drugs on a freighter with the INS -- to the more mundane such as street closures, traffic accidents, and the much dreaded domestic violence call.  Reid collaged his documentation of the experiences together in a sketch-like style, not unlike courtroom illustrations.  The action-packed media feel is further hit home with his use of bold color, and television-shaped framing devices.  Reid was also drawing from police heroes as seen on television shows, and comic book heroes.  In some ways, it is an extension or contemporary interpretation of the WPA-style heroic imagery..
