A homeowner's tax bill may differ from the previous year due to changes in assessed value or ad valorem millage adjustments by other local taxing authorities. TAMPA TAKES A BITE OUT OF CRIME
The total violent crime rate for the 1999 calendar year is down 12.5% compared to 1998 and marks the 5th year in a row that violent crimes have declined. Overall, since 1994, crimes such as homicide, robbery, aggravated assault and sexual battery have decreased by 36%. Much of this improvement is attributed to the Tampa Police Department's adoption of community oriented policing strategies that place an emphasis on building good relationships with citizens. One such program, Firehouse COPS, has been well received by neighborhoods.
FIRE RESCUE
Greater emphasis has been placed on firefighter and paramedic equipment acquisition with approximately $650,000 worth acquired during FY2000 or scheduled for FY2001. New equipment/upgrades include some of the latest technology in fire fighting breathing apparatus, helmets, automatic external and monitor/defibrillators. This equipment will improve fire fighter safety and enhance emergency medical services.
