A
MESSAGE FROM THE CITY COUNCIL CHAIRMAN In cooperation with the Mayor and city administration, Tampa
City Council has the responsibility of crafting a budget which best
serves our city and its needs. Tampa City Council truly represents the
lively diversity of ideas in our community and we invite you to participate
during the budget process.
For the 15th consecutive year, Tampa's ad valorem property
tax millage rate remains at 6.539 mills. We are striving to be financially
conservative while improving the quality of life in our community.
Public hearings are held to discuss the city’s budget
and its priorities for the next fiscal year. Public hearings were held on September 11th and September 25th.
City Council members welcome your thoughts and suggestions.
The proposed budget is available online and you can make suggestions
to your City Council members by phone, fax, e-mail or by speaking at
the public hearing. Changes and reallocations can be made until the
last hearing closes.
Share your ideas! If we can blend careful administration
and creative problem solving, we will move Tampa into a bright future.
We will continue to work toward safe and attractive neighborhoods, prosperous
businesses, lively recreation and arts programs, decent transportation
systems, clean water and a healthy natural environment. Thank you for
joining us.

THE BUDGET PROCESS The City of Tampa budget development is a year round process.
During the first quarter of the new fiscal year, the Budget Office
prepares initial revenue and expense estimates. Next, the Mayor
and the Departments develop their service and delivery objectives
during the second quarter, based on anticipated funding levels.
Departments then prepare working budgets that are
within the target amounts. All budgets must be ready by June for
the Mayor’s review. Finally, the Recommended Budget is presented
to City Council for review, two public hearings are held and the
budget is adopted by the end of September. On October 1st the new
fiscal year starts and the process begins again.
WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
