Producer/Director Zac Atwood
videotapes the first of three African white rhinos
that were carefully placed into crates at Tampa's
Lowry Park Zoo. Zac was shooting for "The
Mayor's Hour." This episode featured a
behind-the-scenes look at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo.
Notice the safe distance that Zac has chosen to set
up his camera. Smart move Zac.

After a short ride east, the
rhinos arrive at their new off-sight home.
A huge crane carefully lowers the enormous
animals, each weighing more than 4,000 pounds,
into a wide pen where they can continue to breed
to protect the near threatened species.

With the rear bars removed, the
rhinos are yet unaware that they are free to
step out. Zoo President Lex Salisbury and
his staff gently encourage the animals to back
out of their transport holdings.
|
Once these two females discovered
their freedom, they happily pranced about and
grabbed some vegetation to munch on. The
entire process took roughly three and a half hours
to complete. Soon they would be joined by
their slightly larger male companion.

One of the recently relocated white
rhinos let's the CTTV video crew know, through an
intimidating stare, that she's had about enough of
the local paparazzi. So for us, that's it for
this Behind-the-Scenes page.
