Citizen Corps Council
In 2002 President George W. Bush asked all Americans to commit at least two years - 4,000 hours over a lifetime - to the service of our neighbors and our nation. To facilitate this request, in 2003 President Bush allocated $40 million targeted for Citizen Corps Councils as a concerted national effort to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reduce America’s vulnerability to terrorism, and minimizing the damage and recover from attacks that do occur.
Citizen Corps is the component of USA Freedom Corps that creates opportunities for individuals to volunteer to help their communities prepare for and respond to emergencies by bridging together local leaders, citizen volunteers and the network of first responder organizations, such as fire departments, police departments and emergency medical personnel.
The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
The City of Tampa values their citizens and supports the belief that there are many roles those citizens can perform to make our community a better place to live, work and play.
