The City of Tampa Office of Human Rights (TOHR) schedules mediation conferences for new complaints of employment discrimination, pursuant to Sections 760.06(5) and 760.11(11) of the Florida Civil Rights Act of 1992.  Mediation is a process in which an impartial person, the mediator, helps the parties to resolve their dispute.  The mediator may suggest ways of resolving the dispute but does not make any judgment. More on mediation...

The purpose of the mediation conference is to provide for the exchange of concerns from both parties and to work towards a possible resolution of the dispute.  This informal conference is an opportunity for the Complaining Party and the employer (Respondent) to resolve their dispute prior to TOHR's investigation.

The TOHR Provides an impartial mediate to conduct the mediation process, and issue and maintain all appropriate documents in accordance with all statutory and procedural requirements.

In accordance with the TOHR's rules, all communications at the conference are confidential.

If you think you are being discriminated against, here's what to do...

Record your experiences. Write down names of individuals and witnesses who have direct knowledge of what happened.  Make notes of significant conversations and incidents that might indicate discrimination; dates and times they occurred.

File your complaint immediately after the incident has occurred, because your complaint may not be accepted after 180 days.

Call TOHR at (813) 274-5835 or contact Tampa/Hillsborough County Human Rights Council
