  Westshore Waterways Improvement Project

Westshore Waterways Improvement Project

The City of Tampa applied for and was awarded by Congressional Appropriation, an Environmental Protection Agency Grant for the removal of accumulated sediments from existing canals in the South Westshore Area.

This Federal grant, combined with required matching funds from the City of Tampa, will fund the removal of sediment buildup in estuary systems of both natural and manmade canals located on the west side of the Interbay Peninsula. Maintenance dredging of these canals, few of which have had routine maintenance since originally excavated and filled into finger channels in the 1940s and 1950s, will improve the environmental quality of the Bay and increase the flushing action of the tidal exchange.

The City of Tampa has selected Duncan Seawall Dock and Boatlift, LLC, via applicable State and Federal statutes, as the Construction Manager at Risk for the work.  Permitting activities and preparation of a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposal are underway.  Subject to finalization of permits and acceptance of the GMP, work is expected to begin in early 2012.
