November 24, 2008 - The GT CERT 2008 holiday party will be held on Thursday, December 11 from 7PM-9PM. The location for the party will be the main meeting hall at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Wesley Chapel (2740 Cypress Ridge Blvd., Wesley Chapel, FL 33544). As in past years, the holiday party will be pot luck, so bring your favorite dish. We will try and send out an evite in order to get an idea of what everyone is planning on bringing. Also, don't forget to submit your nominations for the GTCERT volunteer of the year by Tuesday, December 2nd! Hope to see you all there!

November 20, 2008 - GT CERT recently conducted Volunteer Reception Center training at the Tampa Fire Rescue Training Center. The Volunteer Reception Center is a concept to be utilized following a disaster in order to organize spontaneous volunteers who will want to respond. The idea behind the VRC is to gather the volunteers at a location near the event and organize them to be tasked based on their skills. In addition, the VRC serves as a location and staging area for both the volunteer responders and for families of potential victims. The intent of the VRC is to be set up rapidly following the event and to stay in place for a short duration until the professional agencies set up the long term centers. November 11, 2008 - According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), three sessions of the 3 day Disaster Animal Response Training will be held in Florida in 2009.  more...
