Go Green this fall instead of the traditional bright yellows,
rich reds and russet. Here are some tips on how:
-
October is International Walk to School month - children,
parents, teachers, friends and neighbors all have an
opportunity to take part while enjoying the benefits of
walking. To learn more visit:
http://www.iwalktoschool.org/. If you are organizing a
walk, please let us know.
-
Idling school buses waste fuel and pollute the air. If you
see a bus parked with the engine running, ask school
officials to adopt a no-idling policy. Children are
especially sensitive to diesel exhaust, which causes
respiratory problems and worsens allergies and asthma. View
more information about how to reduce school bus idling. If
you pick your children up from school or the bus stop, turn
off your engine and, lead by example.
Halloween is coming!
-
Instead of buying a costume that you will probably only use
once and then throw away, make your own, using old clothes
or buying used ones from a consignment shop.
-
For
trick-or-treating, use reusable cloth bags instead of
disposable ones. The kids can even decorate their own.
-
Make
the most of your jack o’ lantern by using the removed meat
to make pumpkin pie or muffins. Roast the seeds for a fun
holiday snack. When the holiday is over, cut up your carved
pumpkin before it spoils and toss it in the compost bin.
-
Having a Halloween Party? Borrow, rent or reuse your
decorations and supplies.
Take advantage of Tampa’s beautiful October weather to make
home improvements.
Here’s
wishing you a rich, warm, and Earth-friendly Autumn and Fall |
