 April 21, 2009 – Mayor Pam Iorio and the Rampello Downtown Partnership School will officially celebrate Earth Day with a tree planting on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. As part of the event, the school will be planting a Florida-Friendly tree using a water-conserving irrigation method. Iorio Announces Tampa’s Gold Green Local Government Designation - Tampa is the second city in Florida to achieve gold

January 23, 2009 – Mayor Pam Iorio stood at Tampa’s City Hall Plaza to announce the City’s Gold-level Certified Green Local Government designation by the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGCB). Mayor Issues Memo to City Council Outlining City's Environmental Progress

April 22, 2008 - As we celebrate Earth Day today, I thought it might be helpful to recap the many positive steps the City has taken over the past few years to improve our environment.

How has the City of Tampa improved our environment?

Perhaps our most significant accomplishment has been the agreement with the Southwest Florida Water Management District for a minimum flow for the lower Hillsborough River. This agreement, signed last year, will greatly improve the quality of the lower Hillsborough River. Thanks to water rate increases we will build $40 million worth of infrastructure to make the minimum flow work.

Iorio Designates Green Officer

Tampa, FL April 14, 2008 - Mayor Pam Iorio has designated Thom Snelling, the current Deputy Director for Growth Management and Development Services, as the City's Green Officer. Snelling will perform these new duties in addition to his duties as Deputy Director.

His primary responsibility in this role will be to ensure the City of Tampa reaches its goal to become a Certified Florida Green Local Government by October of 2010 and to coordinate programs that will help the City fulfill its commitment to the U.S. Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement. As part of his duties, Snelling will work continually to advance the use of green building techniques and sustainable development practices.
 

Mayor's Urban Hybrid Realizes Big Gas Savings

Tampa, FL April 4, 2008 - Switching from a Lincoln Town Car to a Toyota Hybrid has saved the City of Tampa 330 gallons of gas in just ten months. In May of 2007, the mayor traded in her city car, a Lincoln Town Car, for a Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Urban Lake rescue Project Begins - Lake Roberta to Get Improvements Including Installation of a Sediment Trap

Tampa, FL January 25, 2008 - As part of the City of Tampa’s continued commitment to investing in neighborhoods, work is underway for the installation of a stormwater sediment trap for Lake Roberta. Construction began in early January 2008 and will take place on Lake Roberta Circle and Idlewild Avenue.

City to Join Tampa Canal Preservation and Restoration Association for Public Meeting

Iorio Signs on to U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement

Tampa, FL February 2, 2007 - On Thursday, February 1, 2007, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio signed on to support the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement that urges the federal and state governments to enact policies and programs to reduce global warming pollution and seeks to promote positive climate change at the municipal level.
