Parent & Tot Gymnastics Class

Instructional gymnastics class building skills through creative movements:

Our Parent and Tots program is designed to help your child physically, mentally, and socially.  A toddler’s coordination of manual skills is very difficult and frustrating at this age; therefore, the smallest achievements for the children should receive praise from both the parent and teacher.  Please read the following guidelines to our Parent & Tot Gymnastics class.

Parent’s role in a gymnastics class:

First and foremost, you must not compare your child to another child.  Each child will develop differently.  Remember that some of the children have been in the program a longer amount of time and are able to react to the situation or instructions easier due to familiarity.

During the class, give your child "situations".  Try to avoid telling them what to do.  Get into the situation with your child.  If your child sees you walking the balance beam (low of course), they might decide that looks like fun and will want to join you.

If your child is not participating in a group activity and is off somewhere else doing what they think is more interesting, go share their curiosities.  Soon enough what their doing won’t seem so interesting and they’ll come back and join the group.  If they do not...that’s OK too.  Please supervise their explorations away from the group.

Positive reinforcement helps to develop their self confidence in the gym.  We encourage hugs, kisses and "high 5’s"!   Also, repetition is very important.  Week after week...find time in your day to accomplish some of the same tasks or skills that interests your child.

At this age, your child is very self-directed, depending on age and maturity level, and will respond mostly to you before they will an instructor.  Do not expect your child to "perform", but let them explore on their own.  Don’t be too quick to help them, you will be amazed at what they can do.

In our classes, we set different goals/lesson plans for each week in order to give the children different situations and goals to meet, but with repetition for a comfortable learning environment.  Make this class a fun and learning experience for your child, and it will be a rewarding experience for you.

Class Guidelines and Information

  • Tumble Trak:  The children should bounce only one direction and must be supervised by the parents at all times.

  • High Balance Beams or High Bar:  The children should not be on these pieces of apparatus.

  • No Food, Drinks or Snacks in the Gym

  • Please be prompt to clear the gym at the end of class:  We usually have classes scheduled back to back and need to be prompt in starting the next class.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
