Historic Preservation and Urban Design

Quick Links

Requesting approval from the Architectural Review Commission or the Barrio Latino Commission requires an application for a certificate of appropriateness.  Requesting a designation requires an approval from the Historic Preservation Commission.  You may download the application forms, complete them and make an appointment with staff for submission by calling (813)274-8920.

Many CA's can be issued by ARC/BLC staff, while others must be approved by the board at a public hearing.  In addition to the application forms, the ARC Submission Requirements (PDF) or the BLC Submission Requirements (PDF) (also see left side menu for submissions) explains the forms and what is required for public hearing.  Also, look at the Fee Schedule (PDF) for the appropriate fees.  These must be paid at the time of submission.   Payment may be made in cash, checks, MasterCard and Visa.

Urban Design

Currently there are ten overlay districts in the City of Tampa and any resident, owner of property or any organization in the city may request the Tampa City Council to consider the designation of a residential overlay district.  You can go to www.municode.com to view the code for the overlay districts.

Please Note:  All the above forms and/or documents are PDF which can be viewed by using Acrobat Reader.  If you do not have Acrobat Reader installed, you must install it first.
