Dear Lenders and Partners:

The City of Tampa is now able to provide tax credit advance loans to eligible first-time homebuyers.  Homes must be in the City of Tampa. Information on the Tampa Homeownership Opportunity Program (T-HOP) is attached.  Lenders can now send in Lender Commitment Request forms to us.

The loan limit for this program is $8,000.00 (depending on the tax credit qualified for).  This loan does require repayment.  You will note that the income limit is less than the maximum allowed by the IRS.  The City is making moderate- and low-income homeowners a priority for this funding.

The loan submission process is the same as for the Down Payment Assistance Program:  Lender submits a Lender Commitment Request (funds reservation) to the City for a borrower that has completed a homebuyer education course and has a contract to purchase a home within the City limits.  Within 30 days of approval of the Lender Commitment Request, the lender must submit a complete approval package to the City.

The State of Florida has allocated a total of $282,000.00 to the City for this program.  However, the state is only providing $80,000.00 at this time.

In anticipation of a good response to this announcement, the City will accept one  Lender Commitment Request per lender until the $80,000.00 is committed.  If the $80,000.00 is not committed by 5:00 PM Monday, August 24th, the balance will be committed on a first-come, first-served basis.  In the event that commitments in excess of the $80,000.00 are received before 5:00 PM on the 24th, those commitments will be placed on a waiting list.

The City of Tampa Housing and Community Development Division (HCD) is the administrator of the City’s housing programs.  The City offers down payment and closing cost assistance in the form of a Deferred Payment Loan (DPL) to income qualified homebuyers purchasing a single-family home within the City of Tampa.
