Homeless Prevention - Rapid Re-housing (HPRR)

The HPRP program is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist the following: a) individuals and families who are currently in housing but are at risk of becoming homeless and need temporary rent or utility assistance to prevent them from becoming homeless, or assistance to move to another unit (homeless prevention); or, b) to assist individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness (residing in emergency or transitional shelters or on the street) and need temporary assistance in order to obtain housing and retain it (rapid re-housing).

Financial assistance is limited to the following activities: short-term rental assistance; medium-term rental assistance; security deposits; utility deposits; utility payments; moving cost assistance; and motel and hotel vouchers. Housing relocation and stabilization services may include services that assist program participants with housing stability and placement. These services are limited to the following eligible activities: case management; outreach and engagement; housing search and placement; and, legal services.

In the City of Tampa,  $988,031 has been made available to provide homeless prevention activities, and  $423,442  has been made available to provide rapid re-housing activities. $50,000 is also available for data collection and evaluation to be provided by the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County. The City of Tampa has contracted with the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County [(813) 223-6115] to coordinate HPRP service delivery throughout the City of Tampa over a two-year period. HPRP assistance is anticipated to be available in October, 2009. If you need emergency assistance before then, please contact one of the agencies nearest you shown in the following table.
