EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE
PLANS JOB FAIR.

The Mayor's and County's Alliances Annual Job Fair will be held Wednesday, October 18 at the Florida Job Services Offices. The offices are at 9393 N. Florida Ave., (corner of Florida Ave. and Busch Blvd.). For more information on joining the employment committee or about the Job Fair contact Chairperson Cindy Stephans at 984-6840.


FAAST TO HOLD WORKPLACE CONFERENCE.

FAAST/TGH will hold a conference on case studies of individuals with cognitive disabilities using Assistive Technology and the steps taken to obtain and retain employment. The conference will take place Wednesday, September 13, 2:30 to 4pm at Tampa General Hospital Room F233. "Following the Right Steps: Cognitive Disabilities in the Workplace," will explore the potentials of AT in the work setting. Types of AT used for individuals with cognitive disabilities will be discussed. Pre-registration is required. To register or for more information on the conference call FAAST at 251-7591.


HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL TO SALUTE ADA.

The Tampa/Hillsborough County Human Rights Council's Annual Breakfast Meeting will be held Friday, December 1st, 7:30am at the Holiday Inn Downtown. The meeting will mark the 10th anniversary of the ADA, the speaker will be Jack Humburg, ADA Specialist. For more information contact Fred Hearns at 274-5835.


CASTING CALL FOR DANCERS AND PERFORMERS
WITH DISABILITIES.

A new theater group has been formed in Tampa with the mission of breaking down employment and social barriers facing people with disabilities by integrating them into the arts. Elizabeth Robins-Edelson, who has a master's degree in dance therapy is looking for members of the community who are disabled to join the cast of M.A.D. Theatre of Tampa (M.A.D. is an acronym for Music, Acting and Dance.) The theatre group is now getting ready for their November performance of Asher Dance Eclectic and is seeking cast members for this performance. Dancers who are disabled do not have to audition and no dance experience is necessary. Non-disabled dancers and performers can audition for the November production on September 18. ACCESS COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS
PARKING PROBLEMS.

The September meeting of the Access Committee will be held at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (TBPAC), Twigg Street, in downtown Tampa, Tuesday, September 18, at 2pm. Members of the City and County Governments will be present to address problems regarding parking for persons with disabilities. ANNUAL AWARDS.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2000 Mayor's Alliance Annual Awards. The Employer of the Year Award, Media Award and Outstanding Community Service Award will be presented by Mayor Greco at the Alliance's Luncheon. This year's luncheon will be held in late October, at the Four Points Hotel, (formally the Sheraton Inn Tampa East), on Hillsborough Ave. at Orient Road. Nominating forms for these awards will be in the mail shortly and should be returned by October 6. For more information regarding these awards call 254-1111.


SOUTHERN DEAF SHOWCASE
SEPTEMBER 22-24.

The Friends of the Deaf Service Center will host the first annual Southern Deaf Showcase at the Harborview Center in Clearwater. This event is the first of its type in the Southeastern U.S., featuring deaf/hard of hearing technology, workshops, deaf cultural performances, exhibits and screenings. The three-day event will feature speakers on a variety of topics of interest to those individuals with hearing loss and the people who interact with them.
