The City of Tampa Mayor’s African American Advisory Council [MAAAC] is a unique organization of African American professional business owners and neighborhood leaders who have been working together in our communities since 1981.

Our Purpose

Our purpose of the City of Tampa Mayor's African American Advisory Council is to serve as a liaison between Tampa's Mayor and various governmental agencies, community groups, civic organizations, and religious institutions, regarding the importance of good race relations.

  • To develop a means to keep the community aware of changes in policy and procedures to help increase the understanding of the functions of government.

  • To become part of a communication network which will disseminate resourceful information to the community at large.

  • To bring to the attention of governmental officials, community problems which perpetuate racial unrest.

  • To receive and disseminate, in respective neighborhoods, the City's annual budget and scheduling of capital improvement projects.
