Summer Employment Opportunities

summer employmentThe City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department accepts applications for summer employment from February - May. 2012 Seasonal Positions Available

Summer Recreation Leader: ($8.75 - $9.25 an hour)
Directs a variety of recreational leadership and educational activities at an assigned recreation center or playground. Assists in supervising games and sports, individual, group and special activities, arts and crafts, in addition to coaching and officiating team activities. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities, work evening hours, and work with participants of various ages. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; be able to commit to a 9-week schedule; be able to attend (2) four hour paid training sessions. Some experience working with children and some education or training in art instruction, recreation or physical education is preferred.
Seasonal Lifeguards

Summer Roving Arts Program Leader: ($8.75 - $9.25 an hour)
On the Supplemental Form please check Summer Roving Art Program Leader if you are interested in either Roving Arts Program Leader and/or Kid's Create positions. These positions implement hands-on art activities and encourages creativity in an artistic environment for children 6-12 years of age. Performs tasks at a recreation center or playground. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities and work with participants of various ages. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; possess a valid Florida Driver's License, be able to commit to a 6 or 8-week schedule. Some experience working with children and some education or training in art instruction is preferred.

Summer Specialty Camps

On the Supplemental Form please check Mangrove Marcus Camp Leader or Joe Abrahams Sports Camp Leader if you are interested in any of those positions.

Mangrove Marcus Camp Key Leader: ($12.00 an hour)
Key leader in an all day seasonal camp for children that is focused on a natural aquatic environment. Oversees the day to day activities of the program, supervises campers and subordinate staff. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outside setting, to oversee the safety of campers in an aquatic environment and to perform a high level of swimming ability in various aquatic settings. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; some college plus experience working with school age children in a lead capacity is preferred; possess a valid Florida driver's license; be able to commit to a 5-week schedule; be able to attend (two) paid training sessions.

Mangrove Marcus Camp Leader ($10.00 an hour)
Leads activities, supervises campers, and maintains safety in an all day seasonal camp setting focused on a natural aquatic environment. Performs lifeguard duties while campers are in and around the water. Lifeguard certification is required. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; be able to commit to a 5-week schedule; be able to attend (two) paid training sessions. Some experience working with children is preferred

Joe Abrahams Sports Camps: Director: ($16.00 an hour), Key Leader: ($12.00 an hour), Leader: ($10.00 an hour)
Leads activities in an all day seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment. Oversees the day to day activities of the program, supervises campers and subordinate staff. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outside setting, oversee the safety of campers in a sports environment and to perform a high level of developmental instruction in various sports. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; some experience working with school age children in a lead capacity or participation in organized sports leagues is preferred; possess a valid Florida driver's license; be able to commit to a 9-week schedule; be able to attend (two) paid training sessions

Joe Abrahams Sports Camp Leader Youth: ($7.67 an hour)
Assist activities in an all day seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment. Oversees the day to day activities of the program, supervises camp participants. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outside setting, oversee the safety of campers in a sports environment and to assist with developmental instruction in various sports. Applicants must be at least 16 years or older; some experience working with school age children or participation in organized sports leagues preferred; be able to commit to a 9-week schedule; be able to attend (two) paid training sessions
