Tampa Greenways &
Trails
CAC Workshop
January 15,2008
Meeting Minutes
Attendees: Karla Price, P&R Dept.; Nina Mabilleau,
Transportation Dept.; Sally Thompson, Chair; Randy Stribling, Vice-Chair, Sally
Flynn, Jill Buford; Kevin Dwyer; Erle Boyton; Richard Johnson; Melanie Higgins.
Sally Thompson, Chair, opened the meeting with
introductions. She then informed the committee of the death of a previous
member, Alan Wright in December and the resignation of Jim Valentine,
Superintendent, Tampa Parks and Recreation Dept.
The committee reviewed the previously adopted Rules and
Procedures and Bylaws. A copy of the updated version will be presented at
the next CAC meeting on February 12, 2008. In addition to the changes to the
document, the following items were discussed:
- Committee would like to see updated material to
distribute at special events to inform the public of the Greenways and
Trails program, etc. Sally Thompson, Jill Buford and Melanie Higgins
volunteered to assist City staff in identifying the information that would
be pertinent in this document. Jill asked if there are grants for brochures?
- Jill Buford mentioned that Council members and the
Port Tampa City community were still interested in a bike ride and tour of
the Friendship Trail. It was decided that this should be done in March.
Will pick a date at the next meeting.
- Committee thought it would be important for City staff
and/or a CAC member to attend the March THAN meeting to discuss the master
plan amendments.
- Richard Johnson suggested the River Tower Park site as
a possible RTP grant site. Update: The Parks and Recreation Dept. is work
with the SWIM Division of the Southwest Florida Water Management District to
restore the shoreline of the park. This work is funded and currently in the
design phase. It would be best to wait until this work is complete to apply
for the trail funds.
- Attending members were assigned to one of the 17
positions identified in the updated Rules, Procedures and Bylaws:
Tom Bryan – Off Road
Richard Johnson – On Road
Melanie Higgins – Natural
Resources
Randy Stribling – Hillsborough
River Greenway
Sally Flynn – Bayshore Blvd.
Greenway
Kevin Dwyer – South Tampa
Greenway
Erle Boyton – Citizen at Large
Jill Buford – Citizen at Large
Sally Thompson – Citizen at
Large.
- Alternates would be allowed for all positions. Look
to Hillsborough County Greenways program for details.
- Committee discussed sending a letter to all liaisons,
government and utility members and asking them to post for their members,
staff, etc. I have actually narrow this group down and need feedback from
the committee if they want to leave the long list version.
The last mailing list was passed around for updating.
The public workshop for the master plan amendments was
discussed. The committee selected March 4th, 2008 at the Barksdale
Senior Center. Updates were not ready for discussion and review.
Project updates were reviewed.
Next meeting is Tuesday, February 12th at Kate
Jackson Community Center.
Meeting adjourned by Sally Thompson.
