The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department accepts applications for summer employment from February - May. If you are looking to build your resume, enhance your leadership experience, participate in team building, meet new and interesting people, but, above all, positively impact the lives of our youth – WE HAVE THE JOB FOR YOU!  

Opportunities include:

  • recreation leaders
  • lifeguards and swim instructors
  • art instructors
  • reading coordinators
  • athletic instructors

Applicants must be:

  • at least 18 years old or older for recreation leader or art instructor positions and have a high school or equivalency degree
  • at least 16 years old or older for lifeguards
  • able to commit to a 10-week schedule
  • able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug test
Recreation Leaders

Candidates must be self-motivated individuals who can inspire children to participate in activities. Some experience working with children and some education or training in recreation or physical education is preferred. Work will be conducted outdoors and indoors. Candidates must attend a two four-hour training sessions.

Lifeguards

Once you pass the qualifying test, you will be enrolled in our Training Program that will teach the critical skills of CPR, first-aid, and techniques for saving a swimmer in distress. You must successfully complete the Training Program to become a certified a lifeguard with the City of Tampa

Art Instructors

Art instructors are needed for the Roving Summer Arts Program. The positions require experience in art instruction for ages 6-12 years as well as knowledge and experience in leading and organizing large groups of children. Training in art instruction preferred.

Reading Coordinators

Applicants must e certified teachers with a background or certification in language arts and/or reading.  Responsibilities include developing a curriculum, to include weekly lesson plans, coordinating with recreation staff and establishing evaluation criteria. These positions will involved working at several different community centers within a localized service area.

Athletic Instructor

Experienced adult and youth (16-18 years old) gymnastic and dance instructors are need. Responsibilities include working with preschool and school-age children in an instructional environment.
