Stephen Hartnett will continue to share his array of experience in District II as a Captain. The last two years of Hartnett’s crime fighting role was spent in the same district as a lieutenant supervising patrol operations. His diverse knowledge of crime trends and proactive police initiatives consistently decreased crime. As a captain, he will oversee the police operations in the southern end of District II from Hillsborough Avenue to Busch Boulevard.
Over his diverse career, Captain Hartnett has served in all three patrol districts, as a field training officer, plain clothes officer, combated street level drugs, child abuse investigator and a traffic reconstructionist. He also serves on the High Liability Committee, which reviews the need for training and policy improvement involving tactics such as driving, firearms, tasers and report writing.
As one of the lead department trainers during the Republican National Convention, Hartnett was heavily involved in the curriculum and training for both TPD officers as well as visiting law enforcement officers.
Captain Hartnett earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the Citadel and Master of Science in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University.
