Vice Chief Arthur Berry

Vice Chief Detective Arthur Berry, 48, and Chief C. J. Woodruff were responding to a reported robbery at Boulevard and Grand Central Avenue on January 29, 1941. Their car collided with another at Ashley Drive and Lafayette Street, now known as Kennedy Boulevard.

Chief Berry, who was thrown from the car, suffered 17 broken ribs and a punctured lung. He died two days later. The robbery call was mistakenly reported and was in fact a purse snatching.
