REVISED 2012 S.W.E.E.P. Schedule Now Available!

The Solid Waste Enhanced Environment Program (S.W.E.E.P.) continues to provide services designed to improve the quality of life throughout Tampa's neighborhoods. In addition to regular trash, recycling, and yard waste services the Department's S.W.E.E.P. program provides residents with thirty-six, weeklong, neighborhood clean-ups each year. Over the past 5-years, S.W.E.E.P. has removed 13,489 tons of bulk trash items and debris from Tampa's neighborhoods.

To ensure a balance of continuous program improvement with adequate scheduling of staff and equipment, clean-up routes are monitored prior to each neighborhood cleanup and signage is posted throughout the area receiving service.

Please review the S.W.E.E.P. schedule to determine the collection week designated for your neighborhood. Place your bulky items at the curbside the week of the clean-up...and the Solid Waste Special Services team will take care of the rest!

City of Tampa Department of Solid Waste Pilots "Solar-Powered" Trash Receptacles

Solar Powered Trash Recepticle

Video: Solar Powered Trash Compactors

The Department of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management is piloting solar-powered trash receptacles in downtown Tampa. Each solar-powered receptacle is fitted with sensors that monitors capacity and compacts contents as needed. When full, each receptacle transmits a message to a designated Solid Waste e-mail account to let personnel know it is ready to be emptied. Content capacity for each solar-powered receptacle is fives times greater than that of a traditional receptacle, and therefore reduces collections from 17 to five times per week. Tonja Brickhouse, Director of Solid Waste & Environmental Program Management states, "Based on projections from Philadelphia, we can expect around $1.2 million in overall savings, including those for maintenance, labor and fuel. All of those variables over time point to huge savings."  The locations for the receptacles are on the corners of Franklin & Madison,  Kennedy & Franklin, and Franklin and Twiggs Street.
