S.W.E.E.P. History: In November 2005, The City of Tampa Department of Solid Waste assumed the weekend neighborhood cleanup services, formerly under the N.E.A.T. program, and will continue bulk trash items and debris removal through the S.W.E.E.P. for Cleaner Neighborhoods initiative.

Neighborhood volunteers are an essential part of the S.W.E.E.P. program and are encouraged to participate with the cleanup effort. In addition, citizens are required to help load their materials whenever possible. Please refer to the 2009 S.W.E.E.P. Schedule and join your neighbors and S.W.E.E.P. personnel by 7:00 a.m. on the morning of the cleanup at the Staging Area indicated.

Enhanced Program

In an effort to continually improve our program and ensure adequate scheduling of volunteers, staff and equipment, the Department of Solid Waste will begin riding routes prior to neighborhood cleanups and will post signage throughout the area receiving service.  Through the S.W.E.E.P. for Cleaner Neighborhoods initiative, we hope to improve the quality of life in Tampa’s neighborhoods.
