Stormwater runoff has been identified as one of the primary sources of pollutant loading to surface waters in Florida, and is regulated by local, state, and federal regulations.  The City of Tampa has been issued a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit authorizing the discharge of stormwater from within the City limits.  This Permit requires the City to enact programs and protections to ensure that all practical efforts are being made to protect water quality.  Collectively, these programs make up the City's Stormwater Management Plan.

Permit Coordination

The Stormwater Management Plan impacts many different City Departments as well as outside partners.  Through cooperative efforts, the City is able to reduce pollution to the Hillsborough River and Tampa Bay.

Helping the Environment

The City is doing its best to help reduce the amount of pollutants in stormwater.  However, it is important that citizens help do their part because we cannot control the rain.  Learn how you can do your part at pollution prevention

Public education efforts by the City are the most effective way to prevent pollution in stormwater.  Most of the pollutants that find their way into stormwater originates with the general citizenry.  Together we can work to keep our waters clean!
