Technical Services

When a citizen has a drainage problem the engineering technicians from the Stormwater Operations Technical Support respond. In addition to helping citizens solve problems with the City's stormwater system, they also provide guidance to homeowners to help them alleviate poor drainage situations they may be having on their own property. They are the Department's eyes and ears in the field, providing field investigations of all storm sewer facilities above and below ground, performing minor surveys and project layout, minor storm sewer redesign and utility coordination. They are also the primary operators for our video inspection equipment. This equipment allows us to assess the condition of our underground pipes.

The City has contractors which pick up trash and cut grass for ninety-four miles of ditches, seventy-nine ponds, and thirty-one vacant lots totaling over one-hundred fifty acres. These technicians provide contract inspection services to ensure the work is done properly and on time. These contracts total about $750,000 a year.

In addition to technical support, Stormwater Operations provides support in the way of processing customer complaints. Support staff are the front-line in serving the community. They take all calls to (813) 274-3101, our published customer service line and transform complaints to requests for service. This staff also provides support to operation personnel for payroll, personnel transactions, material procurement, information systems, and other administrative functions.
