Collection

The Tampa Museum of Art's collection of contemporary art is in storage while TMA is housed in its temporary location at 2306 N. Howard Avenue in Tampa. Construction of the new museum facility in downtown Tampa's Curtis Hixon Park will begin in early 2008, with the opening of the new building expected in the fall of 2009.

The Tampa Museum of Art's primary purpose is to collect, preserve, display and interpret works of art reflecting art forms of regional, national and international importance for the general public on a regularly scheduled basis. The Museum's permanent collection of over 4500 objects is at the heart of this mission. The Museum has established important collections in two main areas: Greek and Roman antiquities and modern and contemporary paintings, sculpture, works on paper, photography and decorative arts.
