"Efficiency and Effectiveness Task Force"
 With City budgets
continuing to decline, citizen service requests growing, and the ongoing
challenges that the City of Tampa faces makes it imperative that we take
innovative steps to accomplish our jobs more expeditiously while significantly
reducing costs. In the business world, this process was recognized some time ago
when the competition among global competitors became intense, and the mantra for
survival became faster, better and cheaper.
In our quest toward changing the way we do business, the City
leadership chartered an Efficiency and Effectiveness Task Force (EETF).
The EETF was asked to think outside the box, address everything the City does
and define new processes for saving time and money and improving our results.
James Buckner, CIO/Director of Technology & Innovation, was asked to lead this
effort.
Since its formation in the summer of 2007, the EETF has brain stormed more than
200 new ideas and has received approval from City leadership to attack many of
these innovative approaches. Action teams are aggressively moving forward to
implement process and culture changes that will save the City money each year,
as well as form the foundation for the implementation of additional improvements
spawned in all areas of the City organization.
A net impact of more than $16 million was recognized in 2010. Changing the
Business of Government is a systematic approach to assessing internal processes,
staffing levels, use of technology and use of the private sector for certain
services. |
