5.2.4.          WiMax
The City of Tampa does not operate, maintain or lease any WiMax facilities.  Consideration of standards for this technology would begin with a review of  the IEEE 802.16 series of wireless broadband standards (currently IEEE 802.16j-2009).

5.2.5.          WiFi
IEEE 802.11 is a set of standards carrying out wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication in the 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz frequency bands.  They are implemented by the IEEE LAN/MAN Standards Committee (IEEE 802) and defined in IEEE Standard for Information technology-Telecommunications and information exchange between systems-Local and metropolitan area networks-Specific requirements Part 11: Wireless LAN Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY) Specifications, IEEE Std 802.11™-2007

The City of Tampa supports deployment of 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n.  Note that, due to its status as a draft standard, acquisition and deployment of a system based on 802.11n should include upward compatibility to any of the competing technical specifications.  Under special circumstances, the T&I Manager of Infrastructure may authorize the use of 802.11a.
