Street LightingThe City street light system is designed to address the lighting necessary for safe vehicle operation and safe pedestrian movement. The system consists of over 24,000 lights and is provided at an annual expense of approximately $3 million. The City does not own its street light system. Instead, Tampa Electric Company installs and maintains lighting as a utility service to the City. Street Light outages should be reported directly to Tampa Electric Company (813) 223-0800. The City receives, on average, 750 requests annually for additional or upgraded street lighting. If you have a particular street that you feel needs to be studied for lighting, please call the City of Tampa at (813) 274-8303. A study will be conducted to determine the level of current lighting in relationship to visibility standards for the current level of vehicular and pedestrian traffic during dark time hours.
