Home Improvement Education Scholarships
The City of Tampa Water Department is partnering with Hillsborough County Public Schools Technical Education Centers and the Hillsborough Education Foundation to provide tuition scholarships of $166 for qualifying customers to attend an 8-week hands-on Home Improvement course at Erwin Technical Center. Designed for the "do-it-yourselfer", a licensed specialty contractor will teach you how to safely work on basic plumbing, electrical, paint and general household repairs during the course.
The 8-week course is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9 p.m. Regular tuition cost for this Home Improvement course is $216; the students' tuition contribution is reduced to $50 by using a scholarship voucher. All classes are reserved seating and will be held at the Erwin Technical Center campus at 2010 E. Hillsborough Ave. in Tampa. Visit www.erwin.edu and look under "part-time courses" for the next course start date and enrollment period.
Customer interest in this opportunity has been extremely positive. As a result, regrettably, all available vouchers for the October 2013 and the January 2014 class have been distributed. While seats may remain to register for the January class at Erwin Technical Center, no additional vouchers to assist with tuition are available at this time. Funding assistance for both sessions is exhausted. Additional funding assistance for this class will be available in the December - January timeframe. Please continue to check this site for voucher updates.
Who is eligible to receive a Home Improvement scholarship voucher?
Tuition scholarships are provided as vouchers. One scholarship voucher is available to any City of Tampa water account holder in good standing. The named account holder or their documented authorized agent can request a scholarship voucher be issued for someone other than the named account holder but once issued the scholarship voucher is non-transferable. Applicants must have an active water account in place with the City of Tampa. Good standing is defined as no more than one month in arrears or current with an approved payment plan.
How do I request a scholarship voucher?
Contact the City of Tampa Water Efficiency Section at (813) 274-8121,
option #5 or to request a voucher. You will need to provide your City of Tampa
utility account number and the name of the person who will be
attending the class; once issued the scholarship voucher is
non-transferable. Vouchers are limited, first come first served while
program funding remains available.
Does a voucher automatically ensure a seat in the next class?
No, the voucher is a guarantee of partial tuition payment for Erwin and
does not guarantee a seat. The only way to ensure a seat in the class is
to complete registration by enrolling in person at the Erwin Evening
Admissions Office at 2010 W Hillsborough Ave, between 1-8 p.m. Monday
through Thursday. You will need to provide them the authorized
scholarship voucher number
and pay the remaining $50 in tuition (the full course tuition is $216)
in order to complete enrollment. Phone and online enrollment is not
available when utilizing the scholarship voucher.
Can I use the voucher for any class at Erwin?
No, the voucher is only good for the part-time Home Improvement course on Tuesday and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at Erwin Technical Center.
Can I register for the course first to guarantee a seat, then request a voucher?
The voucher must be issued and a voucher number provided to Erwin Admissions before class registration to take advantage of the discounted tuition. No vouchers will be applied after registration.
