GRAND PRIZE WINNER
HARTXT

Developers: Team SPARKTECH - Daniel Melick, Luqmaan Dawoodjee, Kathleen Tran, Francis Gelderloos, Erik Christensen, Jeremy Fisher, Maria Ordehi

HARTXT

Brief description of app: HARTXT is an SMS system that allows passengers to simply text the bus stop location ID and bus number, both of which are provided at each stop, and receive an automated response with the next three times that their bus will arrive. It is also available in Spanish and is blind accessible.

In their own words:
We found a useful and practical way to solve a common issue for Tampa public transit commuters. We swayed away from using Crowdsourcing because this limits what an application can do. We don't want to force users to do things outside of their norm. We took what our demographic used on a regular basis, texting, and used that functionality to add a simple but useful way to give them helpful information on a regular basis. We thought about practicality and real life resources.

Users log in with their Facebook account, get a personalized list of vacant commercial properties in their area, and may categorize and discuss each unoccupied property individually. Policy makers and developers can mine this well of citizen input for local ideas about how to best recover from this recession.
