American Victory

The American Victory Mariners Memorial & Museum Ship is a unique and
innovative maritime attraction aboard the World War II era merchant ship
SS American Victory. Located near downtown Tampa and adjacent to the
Florida Aquarium, the memorial creates a world-class museum depicting
life aboard Victory and other classes of merchant ships during World War
II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. The museum presents maritime
artifacts and multimedia exhibits describing life at sea and the
important role of Tampa Bay's maritime industry in worldwide commerce.
The museum memorializes Merchant Mariners, U.S. Navy Armed Guard crews,
and others who lost their lives building, sailing, and defending Victory
and other types of merchant ships. Wreath laying ceremonies are held
during regularly scheduled cruises, memorializing the crew of one of the
more than 2,000 ships destroyed during World War II. Cruises also
feature reenactments of enemy aircraft attacks and shipboard defense
measures.
The museum presents interactive maritime educational and environmental
programs for visitors of all ages. It also provides a unique,
state-of-the-art venue for meetings, reunions, receptions, seminars, and
other special events.
