United States Census 2010
In 2010, the U.S.
Census Bureau is focused on accurately counting every resident
in the United States. Regardless of age, race, ethnic group or
status of citizenship, everyone needs to be counted. The Census
Bureau will mail or deliver census questionnaires to individual
households in March. The newly revised, short form should be
completed and returned promptly. If forms are not returned, the
U.S. Census Bureau will send staff to households, in an effort
to accomplish the important task of determining our population.
The information that is asked is minimal. In fact, less
information will be requested of you than what is found on a
typical credit application. All information given is
confidential and, can not be shared with anyone, including U.S.
Federal and State agencies.
It is vitally important to Tampa that every resident fill out
the questionnaire. If needed, assistance with completing the
form will be provided, free of charge, including language
translations.
The data from this count is used to determine how much funding
Tampa receives from the United States government. Funding is
based on population and is used for local social service
programs that many of us rely on daily.
If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door,
they will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau
canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice. Ask to see their
identification and their badge before answering their questions.
At no time, however, should you invite anyone that you do not
know into your home.
Do not give your Social Security number, credit card or
banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need
it for the U.S. Census. Census employees will not solicit
donations.
Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail,
or in person at home. They will not be contacting you by
Email. Please be cautious of Email scams impersonating the
Census. Do not click on any link or open any attachments in an
Email that are supposedly from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Be counted Tampa!
