Proposed Water Rates

From time to time, all businesses, including government, need to invest or reinvest in order to meet the needs of the future.   We believe phasing in rate adjustments over a five-year period will ease the burden to our customers but still allow us to move forward with necessary measures to ensure the future of our water supply.

In 2012, after the implementation of the five-year program, Tampa’s water rates will still remain the lowest in our region.  The proposed increase will help provide for many of our critical objectives while minimizing the impact to customers.

  • A significant portion of pipes, already past their life expectancy, need to be replaced to address leaks and significant water loss.
  • The cost of doing business continues to rise as a result of increases in chemicals, materials, fuel and other related activities necessary to operate a quality water system.
  • Maintaining adequate water levels in the river is a priority and certain projects must be undertaken to help ensure the natural health of the river.
  • Expansion of the reclaimed water system will help address future demand issues by offsetting potable water use for irrigation and other commercial /industrial applications.
