Generations of my family have lived and worked in Tampa.  My mother and father were born in Tampa; my grandmother was born in Tampa and my great-grandmother was born in Key West. I attended Thomas Jefferson High School and was in the first graduating class of Leto High School.  I was a member of the charter class of Hillsborough Community College and attended the University of Tampa.

I am a retired business woman, self-employed all my adult life.  I started my first business at age 21 and by age 26 had opened my first jewelry store at a regional mall.

As your City Council member, I chair the Transportation Committee and serve as a board member of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, the Florida Aquarium and the Tampa Theatre.  Additionally, I serve on the Humane Society of Tampa Bay Advisory Board, The Spring of Tampa Bay Advisory Board, the Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus President’s Advisory Council and the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council.  I am also one of City Council’s representatives on the Council of Governments Board.

During my time on City Council I have brought forward Ordinances creating the Domestic Partner Registry and the Restaurant and Bar Safety Placards as well as a Resolution that created the Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Cultural Assets as an Economic Engine.   Additionally, I brought to Council the EB-5 Investment Program and a special use in the City’s zoning code so citizens can legally foster rescue animals.

I was married to my late husband, Juan R. Capin, for 44 years.  Our daughter Jessica Lynn and her husband Mark Dion have one son, Myles, who is 3 years old.

It is a privilege for me to serve the citizens of the City of Tampa and I will dedicate all my efforts and energy to this task during my term in office.
