Construction Inspector - Contractor / Architect / Engineer

What will I do?

As a professional construction inspector with the City of Tampa, you will play an integral role inspecting the numerous development projects taking place within the community. This career opportunity, however, is not your typical “office job.” Our team enjoys a wide variety of work in numerous job settings, from electrical inspections at Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to building inspections of shops located along the Tampa Riverwalk, which offers sweeping views of the downtown skyline. Our inspectors also play a part in maintaining Tampa’s vibrant history, working in the historic Ybor City District on numerous projects designed to preserve our city’s rich Latin heritage.

Don’t enjoy sitting at a desk all day? Neither do our inspectors. Scaling ladders to inspect roof work on a residential home, consulting on site with contractors on an upscale restaurant designed to bring more business to the community, and performing foundation inspections on the latest thrill rides at Busch Gardens, Tampa’s premier theme park, are just a few of the exciting jobs undertaken by our inspection staff. Our team is mobile, as you can see, and there is no typical day in our “office.”

Regardless of where you work within the city, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of Tampa’s citizens by working with design professionals, builders, and contractors as they strive to meet the highest standards of the building code. As a construction inspector with the City, you will also be provided with the latest technology to aide in your duties, from Bluetooth-enabled City vehicles to laptops loaded with comprehensive software. You will also be part of a knowledgeable, tightly-knit inspection staff with decades of experience in the construction industry. Our Tampa community is growing, and we’d like you to be a part of our team.
