Coronavirus Update - Event Cancellations

The City of Tampa and Tampa Convention Center continues to closely monitor conditions associated with the coronavirus and is prepared to follow any public health guidelines and recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control, the Florida Department of Health and the City of Tampa Department of Emergency Management. TCC is undergoing a deep cleaning (disinfection) of the entire building using safe and effective sanitizing methods and solutions. 

The safety of both City of Tampa residents & our visitors is our number one priority. The Tampa Convention Center has confirmed that several scheduled events have been canceled.

List of Tampa Convention Center events that have been canceled:

  • Lifesavers Conference on Highway Safety Priorities (3/12-3/17)
  • Florida State Thespians (3/17-3/22)
  • Joseph Volleyball Molten Qualifier (3/18-3/24)
  • Hillsborough Student Literacy and Media Showcase (3/23–3/25)
  • West Florida Idea Exchange (3/23-3/25)
  • ASPEN 2020 Nutrition Science & Practice Conference (3/25-4/1)
  • Radiant Church (4/11-4/12)

  • Academic Internal Medicine (4/19-4/22)
  • WWE Wrestlemania Fan Axxess (4/2-4/6)
  • Jersey College Commencement (6/19)

List of Tampa Convention Center events that have been rescheduled:

  • Metlife Workshop: from 3/22-3/23 to 6/17-6/18
  • Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame Dinner from 3/26 to 8/28
  • NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner from 4/4 to a TBD date
  • Prego Expo: from 5/3 to 11/1
  • Digital Summit: from 5/6-5/7 to 7/13-7/14

Other Events in the City of Tampa

Other private events have also been canceled or postponed, including:

  • The NCAA announced that tournament events, including games played in Tampa, are canceled.
  • The National Hockey League will pause the 2019-20 season.
  • Major League Baseball has canceled the remainder of spring training and is pushing back the start of the regular season by at least two weeks
  • Cigar City Brewing has canceled Hunahpu’s Day which was scheduled for March 13th at Amalie Arena
  • The Rough Riders St Patrick’s Day Parade in Ybor City scheduled for this Saturday (3/14) is postponed

 

The City will continue working with the Florida Department of Health, healthcare experts, Visit Tampa Bay, and other stakeholders to determine whether future event cancellations are necessary. The City understands the impact that event cancelations have on local businesses and tourism and will continue working with experts to minimize the impact of COVID-19, while prioritizing the health of residents and visitors. 

Tampa Convention Center’s Specific and Targeted Initiatives Include:

  • Increased frequency on routine cleaning of common touch points throughout the venue (door handles, elevator buttons, countertops, etc.) using virucidal cleaning agent.
  • Strategically placed hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility for guests and employee use.
  • Enhanced onsite communications and signage regarding preventative actions for all.
  • Ongoing employee training regarding best practices for providing a safe and healthy environment
