Affected individuals and businesses can apply for assistance through:

  • FEMA’s mobile application (available for Apple, Android, and Blackberry mobile devices), online at, or
  • FEMA Helpline at 1–800–621–3362, multilingual operators are available; TTY 1–800–462–7585; or Visual Relay Service 711.
  • In person assistance is available from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., seven days a week at the Disaster Recovery Center, Hillsborough Community College at The Regent, 6437 Watson Road in Riverview.

Have this information ready when you apply for disaster assistance:

  • Social Security number (one per household)
  • Address of the damaged home or apartment
  • Description of the damage
  • Information about insurance coverage
  • Telephone number
  • Mailing address
  • Bank account & routing numbers for direct deposit of funds

Special Federal Programs:

  • Operation Blue Roof - Eligible homeowners who sustained roof damage from Hurricane Irma can apply FEMA contractors to assess damage and install a temporary covering. The service is free. City of Tampa residents may sign up for the program from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Seffner-Mango Branch Library, 410 N. Kingsway Road, in Seffner.
  • U.S. Small Business Administration – Low-Interest Federal Loans for Disaster Related Damages.  Homeowners up to $200,000 for primary residence and homeowners/renters up to $40,000 for personal property.  Interest rates as low as 1.75% and repayment terms up to 30 years.
  • Reimbursements for generators and chainsaws

Other Assistance Programs and Resources:

  • Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) - Reemployment Assistance (RA) benefits and reemployment services to individuals who have become unemployed as a result of a major disaster and who are not eligible for regular state Reemployment Assistance benefits
  • Food for Florida – Emergency food benefits for residents impacted by Hurricane Irma who are not currently receiving food benefits through regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program - This program provides a source of expedient cash flow to Florida small businesses that have been physically and/or economically impacted by the storm.  These short-term, interest-free working capital loans are intended to “bridge the gap” between the time a major catastrophe hits.
  • Feeding Tampa Bay – Food pantries and distribution sites
  • Pet Resources Safety Net Food Pantry - Pet food and pet care items for Hillsborough County residents who need help feeding their dogs and cats
  • Disaster Contractor Fraud Hotline - Citizen hotline that can help Hillsborough County residents detect and report fraudulent contractors
  • One Tampa Fund - ONE TAMPA portal has been created to give people and companies an opportunity to contribute funds to the City’s relief efforts.  These funds will be used for the City’s Emergency Operations and various relief efforts made for City residents and companies.  Contributions to local governments are tax deductible, though to maintain IRS deductibility, it must be acknowledged that no goods or services are specifically rendered related to this contribution.
  • 2–1–1 Crisis Center – 24 Hour Service available to those in distress from the impacts of Hurricane Irma.  

McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House 
(112 South 34th Street) – City of Tampa residents are encouraged to use the McKay Bay Disposal Complex to dispose of storm debris at no additional charge.  Residents must present a valid City of Tampa Utility Bill and matching identification.

Storm Debris Collection – Excessive storm debris which cannot be bagged or containerized or is in excess of the allowable City of Tampa yard waste collection guidelines will be collected separately under the City’s storm debris removal program.  Debris must be placed at the curb, un-bundled, un-bagged and separated by category type (i.e. tree limbs, plywood, roofing shingles, etc.)  The City’s storm debris program will also service New Tampa residents

Storm Debirs Collection
